Our most popular icebox melon. Perfect round, distinctly striped when immature, but dark green with yellow bellies when ripe, uniform melons weighing 6-10 lbs. Red flesh that is tender and sweet with small brown seeds about the size of apple seed that go a long way when planting. Very little pruning necessary. Sugar Baby's hard, tough rind makes it a great shipper.
Pollination occurs by insect, bird, wind, humans, or other natural mechanisms. Because there are no restrictions on the flow of pollen between individuals, open-pollinated plants are more genetically diverse. However, as long as pollen is not shared between different varieties within the same species, then the seed produced will remain true-to-type year after year.
